A group show as counterpoint to last season’s Attention to Detail women’s show in which male artists will be featured from around the world. The theme will metaphorically express the life of the Sea Man—the solo traveler and observer, the mysteries of the deep, and the individual journey through life as seen in art.

Heather James Fine Art is an 8,500 square foot gallery located at 45-188 Portola Avenue in Palm Desert and featuring a wide array of art ranging from Impressionist and Modern art to Post-War and Contemporary, American, Latin American, Old Master, Photography and Design. The new Fine Art gallery is an expansion and evolution of the current Heather James Art & Antiquities, which continues to operate in the El Paseo location and provide clients with the finest in cultural antiquities and ethnographic art from all corners of the world.

THE RIGHT TO WRITE WORKSHOP BEGINS JULY 22, 2009!

(Rancho Mirage, CA)—June 22, 2009—On July 22, 2009 two noted valley therapists will begin The Right To Write – a four week workshop inspired by the popular book by the same name by Artist’s Way creator Julia Cameron.

Carol Teitelbaum, LMFT and Deborah Meints, LMFT will co-facilitate the workshop designed to help people explore the world of writing or escape existing creative blocks through expressive exercises and a journey into literature, poetry and music, designed to awaken the creative spirit.

“Writing connects the heart to the hand,” says Teitelbaum. “Learning to express one’s self upon the page leads to a grounded sense of well being and can open up rooms to the subconscious where one can find limitless riches.”

The workshop begins on July 22nd from 6-8 p.m. and ensues over the course of four weeks at Carol Teitelbaum’s office located at 41-750 Rancho Las Palmas Drive, D-2, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270. Participation costs $180 and anyone can attend by calling 760-346-4606.

KATZ n THINGz

Dara is nine years old and has been creating unique works of art since she was three.  Her early work was mostly colored markers, pencils and crayons on paper with life form drawings of dogs, cats, people, houses, butterflies, insects and trees.  Dara has a strong eye for details.  Her current work “Katz n’ thingz” was inspired by the growth of her kitten this past year to a fully grown cat and her real life experiences.  Recently, Dara has expanded her artistic creations to shape and paint rocks and other things of nature.

To celebrate Dara’s 9th birthday, halfway to 18, Images by Gideon Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present “Katz n’ Thingz”, a solo exhibit of Dara’s work. Artist reception will include birthday cake and goodies.
All proceeds will be contributed to Dara’s college fund.

TALENTED VIRTUOSO PIANISTS AGES 18-35 COME TO PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA TO COMPETE AT VIRGINIA WARING INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION

From March 29 through April 5, 2009, Palm Desert will again be host to 8 days of glorious music as some of the world’s most gifted young classical pianists aged 18 – 35 compete in solo piano, piano with string quartet and piano concerto rounds. Most events are free with two low cost Final Concerts. The event is open to the public with most events free and held at two venues, the Indian Wells Theater at the California State University, San Bernardino – Palm Desert Campus and at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. This biennial event is viewed as an important springboard for the future stars of the solo, chamber and orchestral piano concert arena.  The 2009 Competition accepts only 25 contestants from around the world. The public can also audit a Master Class with Yale’s School of Music’s renowned piano pedagogue Boris Berman.

There are two special features of this competition. The Ernst Krenek Solo Performance Prize is sponsored by the Ernst Krenek Society of Palm Springs. One of the foremost 20th century composers, Ernst Krenek’s name is synonymous with 20th century music. A Palm Springs resident for over 30 years, Krenek’s widow, Gladys Krenek, is an active supporter of the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition.

New this year is the chamber music round, ending with the Chamber Music Performance Prize. Contestants advancing to the semi-finals will play a piano quintet with the exciting Del Sol String Quartet.  The ever popular Concerto Finals with Orchestra returns to the McCallum Theatre Sunday, April 5, 2009.  Maestro John A. Roscigno conducts the Waring Festival Orchestra featuring the CSUN Symphony Orchestra. 

The Master Class on April 4 and all events March 29 through April 2 are free to the public. Tickets to the Solo Finals on April 3 and the Concerto Finals with Orchestra on April 5 range from $10 - $35.

Museum to Introduce Video Room

As a part of the exhibition of the MacMillan collection, the Palm Springs Art Museum is establishing a video viewing room in the Faude Gallery, which will be up and running in a few weeks. The inaugural work will be Dervish by Jennifer Steinkamp.

La Quinta Arts Festival Right Around the Corner!

Art Fair SourceBook has just named La Quinta Arts Festival #8 in nation among fine art festivals in the 2009 rankings.  The rankings are based on average sales reported by the event’s exhibitors.  Only two California festivals; La Quinta Arts Festival and Sausalito Art Festival ranked in the top 25.

New show at Images By Gideon Fine Art Gallery, will be continuing with the gallery open on Saturday, February 14, 2009 from 6 pm to 9 pm. featuring four talented new artists.  The show will be ongoing thru to March 13th with the gallery open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. All the galleries at the Backstreet Art District will be open. Located behind the Mercedes Benz dealership in Palm Springs.
