Art Business News Recognizes PS Artist Melvin Hale

Palm Springs Fine Artist Melvin Hale Featured as a Trendsetter in Art Business News Magazine

Headshot

The award-winning art of Melvin Hale has been featured in the March 2008 issue of Art Business News, the art industry’s leading trade publication.  Hale was named a Trendsetter in their magazine section reserved for emerging artists to watch.  Art Business News is the ultimate go-to publication for art publishers, suppliers and manufacturers aiming to reach the largest number of industry decision makers.  The publication also produces the international trade show, Artexpo New York.   Since debuting in 1978, Artexpo New York has helped launch the careers of some of the finest American artists of the 20th century, including Andy Warhol, Peter Max and Leroy Neiman.   A link to the article is at www.mhalegallery.com/trendsetter_emergingartist.pdf.

Artwork in the article on Hale featured Radio City Hollywoodland, a view of world-famous Sunset and Vine streets in Hollywood with a rare peek at the Hollywoodland sign in the background, Chi Chi & Cubana, a colorized landscape of famous Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs and Billie Holiday a tribute portrait of the jazz legend.  Hale digitally colorizes vintage images taken from aged black and white photos, which he calls digital realism.  “I feel honored that my work has been selected to appear in the art world’s #1 publication.  This further demonstrates the appeal of digital realism, which is what I call my artistic style, and combines vintage, midcentury and modern landscapes into a new art form that gives one the feeling of actually experiencing the time, mood and freshness of that day, even if it was more than 50 years ago” said Hale.

In addition to being an artist, Hale runs a fine art publishing business and studio based in Palm Springs, California.  His originals and limited editions on canvas are collected worldwide.  Hale’s latest work is called Glorifried Ham and Eggs at Tom Brennemans, Hollywood.  For more information on the Art Business News feature, or Melvin Hale’s work, visit online or call (760) 808-4824.

“DAN IRVINE’S techniques include using digital cut outs and massive layering of
images. His juxtaposition of images and use of color is a compelling chronicle
of digital artwork, a calculated knowledge of media and a wisdom of both drama
and intensity.” - christina strong, art critic

“I like the feeling that you may want to reach out and touch the painting..to feel the
different texture on each.” says MIKE FOSS. The perception of the viewer changes
each time the painting is viewed due to the energy and movement these canvases
possess.

JOHN MICH : PHOTOGRAPHS
EXHIBITION TO TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY MARCH 15TH AT
AL * KE - ME SALON IN DOWNTOWN PALM SPRINGS

Alec72

Photographer John Mich will debut his exhibition John Mich: Photographs at Al Ke Me Salon located at 324 North Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs on Saturday, March 15, 2008. The artist will be in attendance at the special cocktail reception from 7-9 PM.

He will debut photographs taken over the past two years, presented in the traditional black and white mounted style in black frames. A man’s back, swathed in shadows as he traverses the dark, eroticism of San Francisco’s Doer Alley. A cross section abstract from a Ducati motorcycle’s heart of light, metal, and lines juxtaposed into mysteries of the machine, reminiscent of the man who rides it. The photographs of John Mich represent a singular eye towards the accidental and natural pieces of shadow, form and light that are all around us if we only but stop still long enough to notice.

“My photographs represent what I see,” he explains. “ Anyone with a trained arm and good eye can take pictures of landscapes and people and things in ways that make them look good. I want to present to the viewer the things that hide among us, that we aren’t prone to see in the course of every day life, the gorgeous and abstract constructions that play all around us that remain invisible until captured in the confines of my lens, thus becoming free to transform as stunning visual representations of our world.”

The Color of Life: Polychromy in Sculpture from Antiquity to the Present
March 6–June 23, 2008

Focusing on representations of the human figure, this exhibition explores the role of color in sculpture and its place in Western taste. Ancient, medieval, and early Renaissance statues were regularly painted, but Neoclassical collecting interests and aesthetic concerns have privileged monochrome marble and bronze. Following recent research on ancient pigments, The Color of Life includes a variety of masterpieces that reveal the lifelike qualities of polychrome statues fashioned over the course of four millennia.

NOW SHOWING at Images by Gideon

Images by Gideon – A new Exhibition
423_holistic_gestation_i_40x265_acr

“Holistic Gestation-A Pregnancy Series” & “Square Feet-Modular Art”
February 14 to March 13

In a world where runway models shape our perception of the perfect female body the artist provokes and invites you to celebrate the miracle and beauty of the female form at its best.

In his new series “Holistic Gestation-A Pregnancy Series” Gideon was inspired by his models’ changing bodies as they progressed through their pregnancies. He was fascinated by the idea of a new soul and life emerging, and wanted to capture two bodies as they grew together knowing they would soon take on individual forms. In addition to the pregnant body being captured or frozen in time, other body parts are imprinted onto the paper/canvas capturing the same body as it was prior to the pregnancy. The pieces depict the artist’s vision of the two bodies’ synergy and spiritual aura.
