(Palm Desert, CA)—November 13, 2008—On Sunday, November 30, 2008, noted art historian Ann Dumas will present the lecture “Impressionism: New Art For Old” at Heather James Fine Art in Palm Desert. The lecture will take place at 12 noon and the public is invited to attend for free. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited to 50 seats so reservations are encouraged. The lecture will feature a powerpoint presentation by Dumas including famous artworks that will be hanging in the gallery for guests to view. Dumas will remain in the gallery after the lecture to discuss pertinent artworks with any interested guests.
ABOUT ANN DUMAS:
Ann Dumas is an independent art historian and curator attached to the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Ann completed her graduate work in art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, where she wrote her doctoral thesis on The Private Collection of Edgar Degas. In the early 1980s she worked as a Hilla von Rebay research fellow at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York where she was engaged on a scholarly catalogue of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection Venice. This was followed by six years as Associate Curator of European Painting at the Brooklyn Museum of Art where she curated a number of exhibitions including Courbet Reconsidered. Since returning to London in 1994, she has curated several major international exhibitions including The Private Collection of Edgar Degas at the National Gallery, London and Metropolitan Museum, New York, in 1997, 1900: Art at the Crossroads for the Royal Academy of Arts, London and the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2000, Matisse his Art and his Textiles for the Royal Academy, London and the Metropolitan Museum, New York in 2005, Cézanne to Picasso: Ambroise Vollard, Patron of the Avant-Garde, for the Metropolitan Museum, New York, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Musée d’Orsay, Paris, 2006-2007. Most recently, she curated Inspiring Impressionism: the Impressionists and the Art of the Past, which opened at the High Museum, Atlanta in October 2007 and travelled to the Denver Art Museum and the Seattle Art Museum in 2008, and From Russia fro the Royal Academy of Arts, London. She is currently working on an exhibition about Van Gogh and his letters to be shown at the Royal Academy, London, in 2010.
Ann Dumas is also a consultant to the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio and to private collectors.
