Filmmaker Neil Burger’s Highly Anticipated Film ‘The Lucky Ones,’ – Starring Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams and Michael Peña – Kicks Off Series and Post-Screening Q&A with Acclaimed Critic Pete Hammond; Evening Includes Opening Night Reception
“We’re pleased to bring KCET’s successful Cinema Series to the Desert,” says Hammond. “Film enthusiasts will get a first look at some of the season’s most talked-about movies before they hit theatres and an opportunity to meet with filmmakers for an insider’s perspective.”
The opening film for the series is the highly anticipated Drama/Comedy The Lucky Ones, starring Tim Robbins (Mystic River, Shawshank Redemption), Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Michael Peña (Crash), and directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist). The film will screen on September 24 at 7:00 p.m., and Burger will participate in the Q&A. Opening night includes a special reception, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The Lucky Ones revolves around three soldiers – Collee (Rachel McAdams), T.K. (Michael Peña) and Cheever (Tim Robbins) – who return from the Iraq War after suffering injuries and learn that life has moved on without them. They end up on an unexpected road trip across the U.S., with Collee on a mission to bring her boyfriend’s guitar back to his family because he saved her life; T.K. seeking confidence to face his wife after a shrapnel injury; and middle-aged Cheever planning to hit the casinos in a desperate effort to pay for his son’s college tuition.
Tickets to the eight-week series are $80 per person ($75.00 for current KCET members). For reservations or to charge by phone, call 760-327-0918 or email firstname.lastname@example.org . All proceeds from the series benefit KCET Desert Cities.
